The Sport Club do Recife known as Sport and Sport Recife, SCR is a Brazilian sports club, located in the city of Recife, state of Pernambuco. It was founded on May 13, 1905, by a Pernambucano who lived for many years in England, called Guilherme de Aquino Fonseca, where he studied at Cambridge University, and returned to Pernambuco bringing a new passion for sport in this country, football.
The club has a great heritage, a structure formed by multi-stage equipped training center and garage rowing. The Sports Complex of Ilha do Retiro, with a total area of 14.1 acres (141,000 m²), home headquarters, field and support staff, apart-hotel with 12 apartments for concentration of professionals, catering for concentration of the basic categories, Tribune of honor, press room, locker rooms, water park, park tennis, basketball, handball, hockey, futsal, volleyball, among other sports. The Estádio da Ilha do Retiro, by its structure, location, and obey FIFA standards, is considered the best stadium in the Northeast. The crimson-black also has the CT of the Lion, sports training center for the professional cast, the basic categories and the women’s game, and a traditional garage rowing.
In football, owns six titles with seal of CBD/CBF, for the years 1968, 1987, 1990, 1994, 2000 and 2008, with 3 national and 3 regional. His greatest glories are the Brazilian Championship 1987 and Brazil Cup 2008. Two-time champion Besides being National elite, the Sport has a title Brazilian Series B 1990, Champion is North-Northeast, 1968, Two times champion of the Northeast in 1994 and 2000, three times champion Pernambuco Cup and 39 times Champion Pernambucano Championship, being the biggest winner of the competition in the 20th and 21st centuries, and largest foreign holder of state. In addition to professional football, The Lion also boasts football tradition of youth development, women’s football, and Olympic sports (in sports such as rowing, swimming, hockey, basketball, futsal, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, judo, athletics, etc…), accumulating conquests regional, national and international.

Sport participated twice the Copa Libertadores. The first, 1988 Copa Libertadores, having won the 1987 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the other participation, 2009 Copa Libertadores, having won the 2008 Copa do Brasil. At first participation was in 15th place and second in 11th.
In 2010, the Crimson-Black was nominated by FIFA as a Brazilian Classic Club, South American and world, as part of the hall of big clubs this federation football international and is also ranked in the Top of the CONMEBOL in 68th position and the rank of CBF as holding the 17th position. Research statistics diverse, like the Lance! Magazine/IBOPE, indicate that the Lion of the Island has the greatest fans in the North East, and one of the largest in Brazil, being the 11th in the national numbers, with millions of followers. Still, according to the Independent Auditors BDO RCS, the brand of the club is the seventeenth highest value in Brazil, surpassing the 41 million reais.
In December 2012, the club signed the project’s Arena do Sport, inserting the project works in the office of the city of Recife. Thus, in the second half of 2013, the club began the process of demolishing Ilha do Retiro, with estimates of the current club president, will start the process of construction of the Arena, with two years of work, being completed in mid-May 2015, when the Sport will do its 110th anniversary.
It has a historic rivalry with the Náutico, where the confrontation between the two is known as the Clássico dos Clássicos, this being the third eldest in the country’s derby, with Santa Cruz, which is called Clássico das Multidões, and with América-PE, where he duels in Clássico dos Campeões.
